LO-TOW®: Towline vs. Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV)

LO-TOW - NOT AGV!

Compare the towline application to any Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) or Self Guided Vehicle (SGV), and the benefits become clear. From initial installation to the price of each vehicle, towline costs a fraction of AGV and easily outperforms and outlasts AGV. Need more throughput, simply add more carts – from pallet jacks to other offline equipment, many existing material handling devices can be used on a towline system.

Towline systems are an ideal alternative to an AGV application. Among tow-line’s attributes:

  • Lower cost and longer life means users enjoy long-term economic and production benefits
  • No costly batteries to replace, or charging stations or devices to clutter the factory floor.
  • No onboard power train components makes towline carts smaller, more compact and with improved operator ergonomics
  • Unencumbered by varied building elevation changes that can cause range limitations in AGV systems
  • Able to accommodate the volume swings common to a busy facility by generally utilizing a third of available tow-chain capacity (compared with 85% system utilization with an average AGV installation)
  • On-board PLCs to control RF communications mean towline carts can be as sophisticated as any AGV system.
